Position Summary:

The Benefits and Payroll Manager administers payroll and benefits for employees at St. Anne's-Belfield school. The responsibilities include ensuring work benefits and employee documents are secured as required by all local, state and federal authorities, executing and validating bi-weekly pay calculations, deductions and benefit cost. In addition, this position will be responsible for administering benefit programs to include enrollment, claims resolutions, change reporting and approval of invoices for payments. The administrator also executes yearly enrollment periods, delivers employees' issues and concerns to the proper channels and is available to assist in company audits to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations. This management position requires payroll/accounting knowledge, benefit expertise and the ability to communicate with staff in all levels of the organization.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Implementation of payroll software with the ability to transfer benefits which include retirement plans, complex PTO plans and all government regulations that impact payroll.
  • Analyze and calculate pro-rated salaries and complex pay algorithms
  • Manage, analyze and process payroll for multiple categories of employees including teacher pay, seasonal employees, and adherence to employee agreements.
  • Verify accuracy of all benefit enrollments and life change status
  • Process and reconcile bi-weekly payroll in HRIS
  • Process and verify benefit elections, merit raises, salary changes, garnishments, cobra and severance
  • Manage all leave programs
  • Process salary and comp changes, W-4's, direct deposits, vacation, holiday pay and salary adjustments as needed.
  • Administer employee benefit program including medical, dental, vision, group life, HSA, FSA, long/short term disability, 401K, 403B, etc.
  • Manage and audit PTO program
  • Manage leave paperwork and the leave process through return to work
  • Process, audit and pay/transfer all payments for benefits
  • Provide on-to-one assistance to employees with challenges with benefits and payroll policies
  • Manage and monitor all new hire paperwork to ensure accuracy and completion.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with competing priorities
  • Ability to communicate and address employee payroll and benefit challenges with employees at all levels of the organization efficiently and effectively

The essential responsibilities require the following Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong working knowledge of HRIS and Excel
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll and benefits regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems
  • Ability to make judgements for risk management
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Level of Education:

Bachelor degree in Finance, Accounting or related fields preferred

Software expertise:

Experience with iSolved HRIS software a plus

Level of Experience:

7-10 years experience in benefits and payroll administration


Travel: Less than 10%
